Soft
Border for Cross-Border Terrorism It is shocking and incomprehensible that Indian government is behaving like an ostrich with its head in the sand. Last two decades have given us ample evidence that even without soft-borders; Pakistani government has been able to push terrorists and mercenaries across the border into Kashmir without any major difficulty. On his recent visit to Indian Sub-Continent, US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage said “any level of infiltration is too much from our point of view. There is infiltration.” Inspector General, Border Security Force Jammu Frontier, Bansi Dhar Sharma, recently admitted that more than 200 trained militants are waiting at various launching pads along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC) to get an opportunity to infiltrate into India. Governor of the state of Jammu & Kashmir in India, Lt Gen (retired) S. K. Sinha also recently admitted that there were reports of infiltration from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). Other army sources have put the number of terrorists who are ready to move into Kashmir around 4000. With such intelligence and data, how could any sane government make it further easier for terrorists to literally walk into the Lal Chowk in Srinagar, Kashmir? It is unfathomable that Indian government is sending such perilous signals to our foes. Softening the borders between India and Pakistan will do irreversible damage to Indian security. This act will further add credence to the concept of India as a soft-state. If this plan of current government goes ahead, India will come to be known as Soft-State with Soft-Borders. And that is all what Al-Qaeda jihadis would need to wreak havoc in India, particularly in Jammu & Kashmir state of India. Instead of making the borders soft, India needs to completely seal its Indo-Pak border so that the scourge of cross-border terrorism is checked and lives of people on the Indian side of the border are made secure and safe. Soft borders between India and Pakistan will never make Indians safer and secure. And that is what should be Government of India’s top most priority. On the other hand, if India wants to see another Beslan in India, she shall go ahead with soft borders with Pakistan. |
