The US Code of Silence on Pakistan
Dr.
SUBODH ATAL
The Saudi connection, touched upon by John Kerry in his acceptance
speech in Boston, is not the only potentially unsavory mystery of the
Bush administration. Since 9/11, top administration officials appear to
have observed a "code of silence" on Pakistan, despite countless
reports
on its links to terror, Taliban and nuclear prolifertion. While
invading
and occupying Iraq for what has now turned out to be no WMDs and
possibly no links to Al Qaeda at all, the United States has gone in the
other direction with Pakistan, declaring it a "non-NATO ally", and
supplying it liberally with money and arms.....more...J&K: Decapitated Nightingale
PRAVEEN SWAMI
"Spring will return to the beautiful Valley soon", the then Prime Minister Atal
Behari Vajpayee had promised in Srinagar last April, quoting a somewhat trite
passage from the poet Ghulam Ahmed Mehjoor, "the flowers will bloom again and
the nightingales will return, singing." Just over a year on, the nightingales
have been decapitated: the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC),
on whose 'moderates' the peace process was built, is in disarray; political
dialogue with New Delhi is stalled, and the substantial reductions in terrorist
violence Vajpayee had hoped for have yet to materialise......more...
AN INTERNALLY DISPLACED
KASHMIRI PANDIT’S VIEW OF KASHMIR
KAMAL HAK
Driving down the Boulevard, the strong influx of tourists
is commonly visible. The hoards of shikaras in Dal, the crowded Nehru Park (this
writer failed to notice if it continues to be known by that name), the traffic
jams on the Boulevard, the pavement eateries, the crowded shops and a large
number of tourists in local sensitivity hurting attires would normally indicate
a society in peace with itself. But, the reality is discernable only to.......more...

figure from the old guard, is the most respected leader of PoK whose views and

An
Ongoing 'Failure of Imagination'?
AJAI SAHNI
A "failure of imagination", the Panel investigating the September 11, 2001,
terrorist attacks in the US stated, was what kept US officials from
understanding the Al Qaeda threat before the catastrophic events
in New York and Washington. There is, however, a manifest and abiding danger
today, that a future investigation into terrorist plots that are yet to
be accomplished would......more...
A Response to Muslim Legacy in India -- Do
Muslims deserve Hatred of Hindus?
VINOD KUMAR
Do Muslims deserve hatred of the Hindus? Well,
the answer to this is quite simple. No one deserves hatred of anyone. And
there is no reason to think or assume that the Hindus hate the Muslims. There
is no evidence whatsoever to support this. To the contrary the Hindus will
contend that they have gone out of their way to.....more...
Extraditions: Flight to Freedom?
SAJI CHERIAN
Post September 11, there has been a virtual deluge of wanted criminals,
including many who have linkages with terrorist groups and operations, deported
from foreign shores into Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport,
bringing joy to the police apparatus in the country, and especially the city
cops of Mumbai. A majority of these criminals have been deported from Dubai, a
favourite haunt for the crime-syndicates....more...
